Swiftrain woke up suddenly, with a pain in her side. Glancing over, she realized there was a bur in her nest. She plucked it out and threw it on the ground. It was quite early, even for Swiftrain, who always was an early bird. "Is anyone awake?" She meowed softly, sitting up and passing a wet paw over her ear.

Willowfeather had been creeping in the nursery to check on the queens.When she saw Swiftrain was awake she quietly mewed "So.Something wrong or are you just an early bird?"

"Oh, I'm fine." Swiftrain murmured quietly, careful not to disturb the sleeping queens and kits. She walked outside and sat next to Willowfeather. "Why are YOU up?"

"Checking on you queens.If you were having problems with breathing and such."She mewed flatly.

Swiftrain blinked. "Well, I haven't heard any of the others coughing or wheezing, so they must be okay." She looked up. The sun was just beginning to rise. Her gaze rested on the fresh-kill pile. "I'm going to go hunting. The other queens will be hungry when they wake up." Swiftrain mewed, heading for the camp entrance.

"I'll go with you.Are you going to the stream?"she asked.She needed some more shells and a stone or two would be nice.

"Yes." She purred back. As they were on their way, Swiftrain scented a water shrew. Carefully creeping up to it, she pounced when she was a tail-length within reach and killed it with a fast bite to the throat. She looked down at it and sighed. *not big but it will do.* Swiftrain thought as she buried it. She flicked her ears when they reached the stream. "Looking for some shells?"

Swiftrain nodded and looked into the stream. A pretty glint caught her eye, and she scooped up a small stone that was silver colored, but turned many colors as the sunlight glinted onto it. "How's this one?"

"That's perfect!"Willowfeather mewed.She spotted a shell that sparkled in the sunlight and picked it up for the kits.

"The kits will love that!" Swiftrain meowed, brushing her tail over the shell. "I'm going to head upstream and see if I can catch any fish." She added, walking the opposite direction.

Looking at the water, careful that her shadow wasn't on it, Swiftrain watched for a pattern. Eventually she saw the swift movement of a fish swimming by. She shot her paw in the water and it came out holding a trout. Swiftrain picked it up and trotted back over to Willowfeather. She dropped it. "You must be hungry, checking in on cats all of the time." She scooted the trout torward the medicine cat.
